Roger Federer, the Swiss professional tennis player, will miss the Miami Master 1000. Tony Godsick, his agent, confirmed the news to the Miami Herald. He has not played an official match since the semifinal of the Australian Open 2020 after a double operation on his right knee. The 39-year-old player from Basel has decided to skip tournaments in Australia, including the first Grand Slam of the year, and return to the pitch next week in Doha. He is also set to play the ATP 500 in Dubai, a tournament where he has marked nine wins in his career, only to take a break for the season on clay. He will not be defending the title he won in 2019.
Federer's goal is to come back refreshed to Wimbledon and the Tokyo Olympics. In the interview by ATP with two 'superfans', people spoke about the bond they have with the tennis player. One of his female fans from India, who has been supporting Federer since 2003, has watched over 100 matches of the 20-time Grand Slam champion.
This female fan listed out the reasons that drew her to Roger Federer. According to her, the player is a magnetic and warm person who treats his fans as they were his family. For her, it won't matter that much if Roger Federer doesn't end his career with the most Slams or fails to add to his current tally of 20. Federer will always be special to her, irrespective of his tennis achievements. It is not just about the numbers rather the effort he showed in his game." He has given us everything he has," she added, "I don't want to cry when he retires, I want to celebrate him." This fan also expressed her relief as Roger Federer's injury and subsequent rehabilitation period proved to be blessings keeping the Swiss player safe from the dreaded Corona Virus. "I didn't want him traveling at a time like this because I don't want him to catch Corona Virus," the fan said. "It was a relief to know that I didn't have to worry [about Roger getting sick] for the rest of the year."
Tennis fans are anticipating the return of Roger Federer at the Qatar Open 2021 next week. The Swiss Maestro will be making a comeback after a 100% recovery, and his fans can't wait to watch him play. Whether he would make an impactful entry is still a question. But one thing we know for sure, Roger Federer holds a special place in the hearts of Tennis Fans and will always do!
