IPL 2021: Manimaran Siddharth, a left-arm orthodox bowler, has been ruled out of the second half of the Indian Premier League (IPL) due to injury, the Delhi Capitals said on Wednesday. During training in Dubai, the 23-year-old suffered a quadriceps injury. Kulwant Khejroliya, a left-arm pacer, has been appointed as Siddharth's successor for the rest of the season.
Khejroliya, who is already a member of the Delhi Capitals squad bio-bubble as a net bowler, has 17 wickets at an average of 23.29 in 15 T20 outings. In the IPL 2018 and IPL 2019, the 29-year-old bowled three times for Royal Challengers Bangalore, taking three wickets in five live T20 games.
Manimaran Siddharth's rehabilitation programme in Dubai is presently being investigated by the Delhi Capitals' support personnel. In a few days, he will return to India, where he will complete his recovery.
Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje of the Delhi Capitals, as well as Ben Dwarshuis of Australia, arrived at the team hotel in Dubai earlier in the day.
Upon arrival, all players were tested for COVID-19. Dwarshuis will be quarantined for six days, while the South African players have come straight from the bio-bubble set up for the recently concluded live ODI and T20I series in Sri Lanka to join the Delhi Capitals.
The 14th season, which was postponed in May due to the COVID-19 outbreak, will begin on September 19 in Dubai with a match between Chennai Super Kings and the reigning champions Mumbai Indians.
