Eighth edition of Bangladesh Premier League has been postponed to January 2022: The BCB on March 13 announced that the 8th season of BPL which was supposed to take place in 2021 has been postponed to January 2022.
Bangladesh-s most decorated and lightening domestic T20 competition will once again wait for the corridors to open. The eighth season was supposed to take place in 2020 but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the BCB has decided to push it further to 2022. Citing the reasons, the BCB said it had to make the tough call of deferring the Bangladesh Premier League 2021 due to the unavailability of the national cricketers.
The mainstream players will be busy with the national duties in the Pakistan tour in November and later on, in December, New Zealand are scheduled to land in Bangladesh.
As a result, the eighth edition of the BPL will now take place from January 14 to February 18, 2022, while the ninth edition of the tournament will be played from January 3 to February 17, 2023.
Ismail Haider, the governing council-s member secretary stated, -We have a couple of windows open for the tournament (BPL). We can either arrange it for November, but the national team is scheduled to tour Pakistan during that time. We could have had it in December but again New Zealand is scheduled to visit Bangladesh during that period. So, ultimately, we have to postpone it until January next year.-
-National team cricketers may not be able to participate in several NCL, BCL, or the Dhaka League competition, due to the international tours and series. We want to make sure we get all the front-line cricketers of Bangladesh in the BPL,- he further added.
BPL was inaugurated in 2012. Since then, it has successfully completed 7 editions. After gaining a lot of attention, BCB will once again embark upon making the eighth edition of the BPL a glorious one.
