5 Highest Team Totals in IPL History - A walk down the Memory lane


IPL 2021 starts on April 9, 2021, with Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians playing the first match at M Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. It will be hosted in six venues with no team having the home advantage during the tournament. Playoffs and final will be hosted at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmadabad.

1. Chennai Super Kings- 240/5
This team scored the 5th highest team total in the Indian Premier League with 240/5 against Kings XI Punjab in 2008. Michael Hussey made 116 runs off 54 balls, which took CSK to 240/5 at the end of 20 overs. Punjab Kings scored 207/4 in 20 overs with half-centuries from Kumar Sangakkara and James Hopes. 

2. Kolkata Knight Riders – 245/6
Kolkata Knight Riders hit the 4th highest team total in IPL history at Holkar Stadium in Indore on May 12, 2018. Kolkata Knight Riders scored 245/6 against Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2018. Kings XI Punjab scored 214/8 in 20 overs. 

3. Chennai Super Kings – 246/5
The team also holds the record for the 3rd highest team total in the Indian Premier League. It happened during Chennai Super Kings vs Rajasthan Royals match in IPL 2010, played at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Murali Vijay and Albie Morkel were the star players of the match. Rajasthan Royals played well scoring 223/5 in 20 overs. Naman Ojha made 94 runs off 55 balls while Shane Watson played a quick game with 60 runs off 25 balls. 

4. Royal Challengers Bangalore- 248/3
Royal Challengers Bangalore scored the 2nd highest team total during IPL 2016, against Gujarat Lions at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. Royal Challengers Bangalore taking the scoreboard to 248/3 while batting first. RCB captain Virat Kohli made 109 while AB de Villiers supported with a 129-run-knock putting up RCB to a massive total. Kohli hit 8 sixes while De Villiers hit 12 sixes. Gujarat Lions were bowled out for just 104 runs in 18.4 overs. 

5. Royal Challengers Bangalore- 263/5
Royal Challengers Bangalore scored the highest total in IPL. Royal Challengers Bangalore put up 263/5, the highest score any team has ever reached in the Indian Premier League. The match was played between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Pune Warriors at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. 
Opener Chris Gayle amazed everyone with 175 runs, 17 sixes, and 13 boundaries for his innings. This was enough to take RCB to a gigantic score of 263/5 in 20 overs. Pune Warriors scored 133/9 in 20 overs. RCB won the match and Chris Gayle was the 'player of the match' for his spectacular performance.
